My New York

By Hong, Junzhi

To believe in God in New York is a luxury
Getting up at 5:30 AM in the morning and plug in the rice cooker
Taking a shower
Learning English for more than an hour
Bolting a few mouthful of rice hastily and without thinking
Running and walking, try to chase after the bus and change the subway
It’s already 9 o’clock when I get to the company
Never stop working until 19:00 o’ clock
The evening news already started half way when I get home
Saying a few words to my wife in bed
Unwittingly fall into a dream
I’ve long forgotten
The taste of sex
This is the schedule for Monday to Saturday, in all weathers
On Sunday, God wants to see me again
The laundry to do and books to read are like mountains
They open eyes wide and wait for you
Really can’t manage them
I got to go to the church
To give God the me that isn’t myself
To satisfy a poor desire
To reincarnate a great luxury
Hallelujah
